Speed without dependency
An interim CFO is brought in because something needs to be solved quickly. That creates an apparent conflict: speed often calls for pragmatic one-off solutions, while a clean handover requires structure.
Both are possible when the system is part of the mandate from day one.
Full Mode
At the beginning, complexity sits with the operator. Sources are checked, logic is built, errors become visible and decisions are prepared. The company does not need to pretend everything is already standardized.
Run Mode
As the mandate progresses, operation becomes simpler. Inputs receive clear formats. Ownership is assigned. Weekly cash, monthly reporting and board materials follow a repeatable process.
The handover is not a folder full of files. It is an operating cadence:
- Who provides which input?
- Which review happens before calculation?
- Which variance requires a decision?
- Who can run the system after the mandate?
That is the defining quality of an interim mandate: not being needed for as long as possible, but leaving the company more capable of running itself.
